Dumbfounded by Dunkirk

I sit here, having driven home from seeing DUNKIRK in amazing 70MM IMAX just an hour ago, and I’m dumbfounded. I don’t know what to write, though there is soo much to be said.

Intense.

Visual.

That Hans Zimmer score, tick-tocking.

Tom Hardy’s selfless heroics.

Helplessness, despair, confusion.

Civilian sacrifice.

Landscapes.

Practical effects.

I flew that plane all the way home, banking at every curve.

I’m not sure how I’m going to turn these thoughts into a movie review, but that was an amazing movie. Anyone who doesn’t like it was probably hoping for a shoe-horned love-story, or didn’t like watching a movie where the character names and dialogue were at best the fourth most important thing.

Christopher Nolan has created an experience. It’s probably not for everyone, but it’s absolutely amazing.

It’s probably a bit unfair to give it a rating at this point, but it’s easily one of the top films of the year.

My rating: 95 out of 100
