Review 93 – Harsh Times

Getting high when you’re supposed to be looking for a job can be a very bad thing.

Harsh Times

Why I Saw It: Christian Bale is on my “seek out” list, and this is one of his films which I hadn’t seen yet.

What Was It About? A war vet tries to decide what to do with the rest of his life.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

Memorable Performances: This film had strong performances from Christian Bale and Eva Longoria. At times, Bale’s character seemed a bit stereotypical, but then he’d take it to new depths. Eva Longoria’s character was well portrayed, but she wasn’t in the film enough.

Potential Nominations for Film Quest ’12:

  • Best Actor – Christian Bale
  • Best Supporting Actress – Eva Longoria

Favorite Parts: It’s hard to say that any of the parts of this film were “favorites”, as it wasn’t necessarily an enjoyable movie.

The Regrettable Aspects: The voice Christian Bale used at times for this character was far more regrettable than anything he did while wearing Batman’s cowl.

Would I watch it again? Not if I have any say in the matter. It was a good movie, but not enjoyable.

To Whom Would I Recommend It? To anyone who likes to see good performances, even if they’re not going to enjoy the film.

Next up, Star Trek III: The Search For Spock.
