Review 63 – Rescue Dawn

Pay attention when they tell you what to expect, even if you’re not expecting to need it.

Rescue Dawn

Why I Saw It: Christian Bale is a member of my “seek out” list of performers, and I had heard good things about this role.

Memorable Performances: Certainly a stand-out role for Christian Bale, with all the nuances he gave the character. Steve Zahn also did a great job, which was a bit surprising because he’s usually great in comedies, and this was definitively a drama. Jeremy Davies was great as well.

The Regrettable Aspects: The pacing was a bit too slow, but that might’ve been intentional to give viewers the feel of what they were going through. A couple of the plot points were confusing, such as the starvation and rice gathering.

Would I watch it again? There’s no way that I’ll seek out another opportunity to watch this film. It was a struggle to get through, despite it’s interesting plot, great scenery and well-acted performances.

Rating: 8.0 out of 10

Potential Nominations for Film Quest ’12:

  • Best Actor – Christian Bale
  • Best Supporting Actor – Steve Zahn
  • Best Supporting Actor – Jeremy Davies
  • Best Picture

Lastly, I’m also looking into different formats for my reviews, so any suggestions / critiques are welcomed.
