Review 62 – Galaxy Quest

I have to wonder how closely this hits home for some of the members of the Star Trek family not named Kirk, Spock or Picard.

Galaxy Quest

Why I Saw It: Some people rave about this movie and give it fairly decent praise, and I felt like this was a hole in my movie watching history. Besides, it had a great cast, with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Justin Long.

Memorable Performances: It’s now the home of my favorite Justin Long performance. It’s certainly an entertaining time from Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell and Sigourney Weaver. The others were funny in what they did, but not necessarily “memorable” aside from maybe Alan Rickman.

The Regrettable Aspects: Nothing, really. Perhaps they could’ve featured Rainn Wilson a bit better, though I don’t know that it would’ve made any significant impact on anything. Another minor change could’ve been to include some additional flashback scenes to help give us an idea for the inter-personal relationships of the characters.

Would I watch it again? No doubt about it. It’s certainly a comedy that most people should see at some point, assuming they’re old enough to understand the concept.

Rating: 8.0 out of 10

Potential Nominations for Film Quest ’12:

  • Best Actress – Sigourney Weaver
  • Best Supporting Actor – Sam Rockwell
  • Best Supporting Actor – Justin Long (though he’d be a LONGSHOT to win)

Lastly, I’m also looking into different formats for my reviews, so any suggestions / critiques are welcomed.
